To The Reader’s Forum: Those facing decisions about approving marijuana distribution facilities in their communities would do well to read Kevin Sabet’s most recent book, Smokescreen. An assistant professor at Yale’s Medical School, the author documents the 30-year push by Big Tobacco, the pharmaceutical and porn industry (Hugh Hefner, et al, and libertarians such as George Soros) to legalize the drug. I am pleased that award-winning rodeo-clown Keith Isley was at the Gerry Fire Department’s PRCA rodeo on August 4-7. Many people take rodeo-clowns for granted, yet their ability to distract wild bulls have saved the lives of countless cowboys. Justice Defined By Another Standard To The Reader’s Forum: The defacement and disrespect of the statues in Dow Park memorializing the Underground Railroad blemishes our area. County GOP Has No Idea How To Improve County Economy

To The Reader’s Forum: In December 2005, when the last Democratic Chautauqua County Executive left office, the county’s labor forcec was 66,500 people. In December 2019, before the pandemic, Chautauqua County’s labor force was only 53,200 people, a decline of 13,300. These numbers are reported monthly by the New York State Department of Labor. The main reason that employers still here in Chautauqua County cannot easily find workers is that there are 13,300 fewer of them left in this devastated county economy. A labor force decline of 20%.
