Cardinals Stymie Wilson; Jamestown Falls At Lancaster

RANDOLPH — Connor Braley ran for 178 yards and Jaxson Morrison threw a 62-yard touchdown to Kevin McElwain as Randolph shut out Wilson 49-0 in Class D.

The Cardinals (4-2, 3-1) held the Lakemen to 170 yards of offense, including 0 of 10 on third-down conversion attempts.

Randolph took a 7-0 lead on McElwain’s 21-yard touchdown run in the first quarter that was followed by Griffin Nelson’s first of seven successful point-after kicks.

McElwain scored on a 2-yard run, Alex Garland scored on a 30-yard run and McElwain scored on his 62-yard catch and run in the second quarter as the Cardinals led 28-0 at halftime.

After the break, Nate Hahn returned a blocked punt 27 yards for a touchdown, Morrison ran for a 14-yard touchdown and Domanik Clark returned an interception 40 yards for a score.

The Lakemen fell to 1-5 overall, including 1-3 in the league.

LANCASTER STUNS JAMESTOWN

LANCASTER — Jamestown suffered its third straight Class AA loss Friday night, and for the second consecutive week it was by a narrow margin.

Lancaster scored two touchdowns in the final 21/2 minutes to hold off the Red & Green 20-13 at Joe Foyle Field.

Trailing 13-7 — Jamestown’s Chase Bonta scored on a 6-yard run with just under five minutes remaining — Legends’ quarterback Alex Krupa connected with wide receiver Justin Hartwig for a 23-yard TD pass that, with the extra point by Christian Schlesinger, gave the hosts a 14-13 lead with 2:17 remaining.

The Red & Green were unable to score on their ensuing possession and Lancaster put the game out of reach when John Gang found the end zone from 7 yards out as time expired.

The Legends are now 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the division, while Jamestown drops to 2-4 and 1-3.

Lancaster opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 1-yard run by Daniel Ahern, and Schlesinger’s successful point-after kick made it 7-0, a lead that stood until the second half.

The Red & Green tied the game in the third quarter when quarterback Dominic Gonzalez connected with receiver Ayden Samuelson on an 85-yard TD pass and Lincoln Carpenter was successful on his extra-point try.

That set the stage for the fourth-quarter dramatics, which started with Bonta’s TD run with 4:53 remaining to give Jamestown the lead, but the Legends scored twice in the closing minutes to secure the win.

NOTES: Bonta rushed for 117 yards on 28 carries; Gonzalez completed 7 of 9 passes for 134 yards; and Samuelson caught two passes for 110 yards. …Defensively, Cole Bloomquist was credited with 21 tackles, Bonta had 15, Carson Panebianco collected 13 and Luis Diaz had 11. … The Red & Green return home next Friday when it entertains Hutch-Tech at 7 p.m.

DUNKIRK — Jareese Gaines returned the opening kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown and Dunkirk outgained Lewiston-Porter 355-52 en route to a 48-7 Class B3 victory Friday night at Karl Hoeppner Field.

Gabe Valentine completed nine passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns through the air, while the Marauders (2-4, 2-4) also ran for 193 yards as a team.

Dylan Bankoski had a sack to lead the Dunkirk defense.

PANTHERS PULL AWAY

PORTVILLE — Portville/Cuba-Rushford piled up 382 yards of offense en route to a 28-6 win over Fredonia in Class C South football action Friday night.

Maxx DeYoe ran 18 times for 207 yards and four touchdowns for the Panthers (), who led 14-6 through three quarters.

Portville/Cuba-Rushford quarterback Eli Sleggs completed seven passes for 155 yards, but was intercepted twice.

Donovan Dowdy scored the lone touchdown for Fredonia () on a 7-yard run in the second quarter that made it 7-6 after the 2-point conversion pass failed.

But the Panthers regained control of the game after halftime when DeYoe ran for a 48-yard touchdown and Conner Roulo added his second of four successful point-after kicks.

GOWANDA/PINE VALLEY

FRANKLINVILLE — Franklinville/Ellicottville took advantage of four Gowanda/Pine Valley turnovers and beat the Panthers 27-18 in Class D play.

Isaac Towne completed nine passes for 186 yards and four touchdowns through the air, while also rushing for 86 yards for the Titans (3-3, 2-2). Bretton Blecha caught three passes for 89 yards, with all three going for touchdowns.

Carter Capozzi went 18 of 32 for 230 yards and three touchdowns through the air for Gowanda/Pine Valley (3-3, 2-2). Brayden Smith caught eight passes for 102 yards; Kyan Austin caught four passes for 103 yards and a touchdown; and Reginald Irion and Winter Mentley-Peters also caught touchdowns for the Panthers.

Franklinville/Ellicottville led 21-12 in the third quarter before Towne connected with Blecha for a 59-yard touchdown pass to make it 27-12. Capozzi completed a 25-yard touchdown to Austin later in the quarter, but the Panthers could get no closer during a scoreless fourth quarter.
