Jamestown Comes Up Just Short Against Connecticut In TBL Action At JCC

Mustapha Traore made a pair of free throws with 13 seconds remaining and Conner Kelly missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer as the Frederick Flying Cows beat the Jamestown Jackals 113-110 in The Basketball League action Sunday afternoon at Jamestown Community College’s Physical Education Complex.

Troy Baker gave the Jackals a 107-106 lead on a layup with 1:27 remaining in the game, but Charlie Marquardt scored on his own putback and was fouled to give the Flying Cows a one-point lead with just over a minute left. Marquardt converted the foul shot to make it 109-107.

Jamestown missed its next three attempts and Frederick’s Theophilus Johnson grabbed a rebound with 23 seconds remaining before Marquardt made a pair of foul shots to make it a four-point game with 20 seconds left.

David Jasson hit a 3-pointer for the Jackals to make it 111-110 with 16 seconds left before Traore’s foul shots provided the final margin.

Traore led Frederick with 35 points and 12 rebounds, while Marquardt had 33 points.

Derrick Colter led Jamestown with 23 points; Jasson and Baker had 19 apiece; and Kelley had 14.

On Friday night at the Physical Education Complex, Jasson had 25 points and Colter had 24 as the Jackals beat the Connecticut Crusaders 114-101.

Terry Dawkins paced the Crusaders with 31 points and Jordan Thomas had 20.

Jamestown sits at 8-7 in the Atlantic Northeast Division with less than a month remaining in the regular season. The Jackals will host the Albany Patroons on Saturday at 6 p.m. before the Reading Rebels visit Jamestown for a 3 p.m. game next Sunday afternoon.
