Southwestern Baseball Begins League Play With Win

ALLEGANY — The Southwestern baseball team scored 13 runs between the fourth and fifth inning on Saturday en route to a 14-7 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 victory.

Jameson Walsh shined on the mound and in the batter’s box again for the Trojans (3-0, 1-0), throwing five innings in which he allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out 10 and walking five. Walsh finished 1 for 3 at the plate with 3 RBIs including a home run, walked twice and scored twice.

Judd Harris also collected 3 RBIs for the Trojans as he went 1 for 4 while scoring twice and walking once, Chase Kartesz knocked in 2 RBIs going 3 for 5 with a double, Robbie Bellardo went 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs, Oscar Harris hit a double and a RBI and scored, Wilson Genareo hit a double and Peter Conley had a RBI.

Genareo pitched 1.2 innings and struck out four and Oscar Harris pitched the other third of an inning.

The Gators (3-3, 0-1) came out early with two runs before letting the game get away from them and finally scoring again in the fifth inning. Vinny LaBella went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and both Zane Gleason and Caleb Strade hit an RBI.

Strade was the losing pitcher giving up five earned runs over four hits and six walks while striking out four.
