Smith Homers As Ellicottville Beats Oswayo Valley 21-9

ELLICOTTVILLE — Hunter Smith homered and drove in four runs as Ellicottville opened its season with a 21-9 nonleague baseball win over Oswayo Valley on Tuesday.

Emmett Jacobson Coolidge doubled and drove in two runs, while Parker John doubled and drove in a run for the Eagles, who benefited from 14 walks at the plate.

Cameron Mendell, Rylan Benjamin, John and Owen Chudy combined to strike out 10 and walk nine on the mound for Ellicottville.

NINE-RUN INNING HURTS GOWANDA

GOWANDA — Jayden Fish’s single was Gowanda’s lone hit in a 12-5 nonleague season-opening loss to Hamburg.

Blake Herman threw the first three innings and allowed no runs for the Panthers. Logan Ruff threw the next two innings and allowed two runs before Gowanda gave up nine runs in the sixth inning.

The Panthers walked 12 times at the plate.
