Jamestown’s Cotter Takes 300 Meters
HOUGHTON — High school athletes from the western Southern Tier turned in top performances over the weekend at Houghton University.
At the Section VI Varsity Select on Saturday, five individuals and a relay claimed first-place finishes. They were Landon Stormer, Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph, 55 meters (6.61); Jarren Cotter, Jamestown, 300 meters (36.12); Lucas Lawrie, Dunkirk, 600 meters (1:26.05); Cody Kent, Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph, 3,200 meters (10:07); Dunkirk boys 4×400-meter relay (3:35.71); and Tyyetta Herman, Franklinville/Ellicottville, 300 meters (42.02).
Placing third on Saturday were Juvenal Diaz-Cortes, Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph, 1,600 meters (4:45.70); Sean Verbosky, Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph, 3,200 meters (10:19.03); Jamestown’s boys 4×400-meter relay (3:36.03); Madison Burgess, Jamestown, 300 meters (43.61); Jamestown’s girls 4×800-meter relay (10:55.79); Emily Cardinale, Jamestown, pole vault (9-6); and Aubrey Domres, Salamanca, shot put (32-2).
Tying for third place was Gavin Stearns, Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph, high jump (5-8).
At the Section VI Limited Events on Friday, Lenient Velez-Olmo of Fredonia placed third in the 55-meter hurdles in 9:01.
