Fredonia Coasts In Flag Quarterfinals
BUFFALO — Despite being the lower seed entering Sunday’s Section VI Class C flag football quarterfinal at All-High Stadium, No. 5 Fredonia overpowered No. 4 Health Sciences.
The Hillbillies’ high-powered offense put up eight more touchdowns and their defense added two more in a 67-0 shutout of the Falcons.
Next up for Fredonia is a semifinal matchup with No. 1 Depew on the road Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Wildcats beat No. 8 Southwestern/Frewsburg 25-12 in another quarterfinal Saturday.
Against Health Sciences, Hillbillies quarterback Sophia Utegg went 9 of 10 for 148 yards and three touchdowns through the air while also rushing three times for 40 yards.
Emma Perry ran five times for 80 yards and two touchdowns, Peyton Krenzer rushed four times for 60 yards and a score and Peyton Wallace ran three times for 40 yards and a touchdown.
Mikaela Sciarrino completed a 19-yard touchdown pass with Nora Polhamus catching five passes for 117 yards and three touchdowns. Alexa Hennessey caught the other touchdown for the Hillbillies.
Juliana Snyder had a pair of interception returns for touchdowns while Nora Polhamus also had two interceptions. Krenzer added an interception of her own.
Perry ran for four conversions while Krenzer, Sciarrino and Utegg each had one.
