Three C/S/P Players, Two From Salamanca Receive First-Team Recognition

Clymer/Sherman/Panama came up short of its ultimate team goal this fall when it lost to eventual state-champion Tioga in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class D semifinals.

On Wednesday, six members of the Wolfpack reached their ultimate individual goal when they were some of 22 local players named to New York State Sportswriters Association all-state teams in Classes B, C and D.

Leading the way for C/S/P were three players — junior quarterback Tate Catanese, junior wide receiver Bryce Hinsdale and senior offensive lineman Grant Lictus — named to the First-Team Offense. Catanese was named the Section VI Class D Player of the Year after completing 137 of 212 passes for 1,760 yards and 25 touchdowns against just six interceptions. He also ran for 617 yards and 12 touchdowns en route to being named a finalist for the Connolly Cup. Hinsdale was named a league co-Offensive Player of the Year after catching 58 passes for 562 yards and 10 touchdowns. Lictus was named to the league’s First Team after anchoring the offensive line for the Wolfpack, who rushed for 2,267 yards and 31 touchdowns as a team.

Portville/Cuba-Rushford senior running back Kaedon Holcomb was named to the Class C First-Team Offense after rushing for 1,479 yards and 20 touchdowns. He was joined on the First-Team Offense by Salamanca junior offensive lineman Warrick Kyler, who paved the way for the Warriors to rush for 1,404 yards and 21 touchdowns. Salamanca junior linebacker Zachary Trietley was named to the Class C First-Team Defense after accumulating 110 total tackles and a fumble recovery for the Warriors.

Clymer/Sherman/Panama junior tight end Alex Barmore, Franklinville/Ellicottville senior offensive lineman Isaiah Ploetz and Franklinville/Ellicottville senior all-purpose back Hunter Smith were named to the Class D Second-Team Offense, while Clymer/Sherman/Panama junior linebacker Collin Ryan was named to the Second-Team Defense.

Named to the Class C Second-Team Offense were Fredonia senior running back Sam Atzrott and Salamanca senior wide receiver Lucus Brown. Southwestern senior defensive lineman Jameson Walsh was joined on the Second-Team Defense by Salamanca junior Cory Holleran.

Fredonia senior wide receiver Jameson Quinn and senior offensive lineman Owen Rush were named to the Class C Third-Team Offense along with Salamanca senior all-purpose player Jaxson Ross. Southwestern sophomore defensive lineman Tavio Hoose was named to the Third-Team Defense.

Gowanda/Pine Valley senior wide receiver Quentin Centner, Randolph senior defensive lineman Maverick Adams and Clymer/Sherman/Panama senior defensive lineman Devin Johnson were Class D honorable-mention selections.

Portville/Cuba-Rushford senior lineman Nik Manroe was an honorable-mention selection in Class C.

Other Section VI Class C players who received recognition Wednesday included: Newfane senior quarterback Nate Snow (First Team), Medina senior offensive lineman Roosevelt Mitchell (First Team), Medina sophomore running back Christian Moss (Second Team), Newfane senior wide receiver Ben Dickinson (Second Team), Medina junior linebacker Brody Fry (Second Team), Akron junior quarterback Coy Patterson (Third Team), Royalton-Hartland/Barker junior linebacker Dan Aquilina (Third Team) and Medina junior kicker Cole Callard (honorable mention).

Twenty-five Section VI players were recognized in Class B.

Named to the First-Team Offense were South Park senior quarterback Noah Willoughby, Health Sciences senior running back Antwan Ceaser and Pioneer senior running back Dalton Giboo. Health Sciences senior defensive lineman Montrice Webster and Lackawanna junior defensive lineman Sam Ikegwuonu were named to the First-Team Defense.

Iroquois senior running back Trevor Barry and Iroquois senior wide receiver Nate Blair were named to the Second-Team Offense.

Maryvale sophomore running back Isaiah Hill and Pioneer senior offensive lineman Luke Matheis were named to the Third-Team Offense, while Iroquois senior linebacker Bryan Edstrom and Health Sciences sophomore defensive back Kavon Pitts were named to the Third-Team Defense.

Iroquois sophomore quarterback Justus Kleitz, Depew senior wide receiver Tyler Pagano and Health Sciences senior offensive lineman Sheldon Cunningham were named to the Fourth-Team Offense, while Maryvale senior defensive back Matthew Prusiecki was named to the Fourth-Team Defense.

Senior running back Layne Jaworowicz represented Alden on the Fifth-Team Offense, senior Alex Chukhanenko was named to the Sixth-Team Offense from Tonawanda and Pioneer junior defensive lineman Sam Platt was named to the Sixth-Team Defense.

Pioneer junior quarterback Gavin Schwab, Maryvale junior running back Brayden Tryon, Williamsville South senior wide receiver Josh Neeley, Maryvale senior lineman Keenan Banks, Cheektowaga senior lineman Jermaine Parsons, Iroquois sophomore kicker Nick Skutnik and Pioneer senior kicker Gabe Kempf were honorable-mention selections.

Wilson senior running back Jack Mahar was named to the First-Team Offense in Class D.

Senior quarterback Caden Bellis of state-champion Tioga was the Class D Player of the Year, senior quarterback Joey Tomasso of state-champion Waverly and senior wide receiver Marek Arbogast of James O’Neill were co-Players of the Year in Class C, and senior lineman Adam DeSantis of state-runnerup Maine-Endwell and senior wide receiver/running back Daniel Picart of Pleasantville were co-Players of the Year in Class B.
