JCC Men Finish 2-1 At Erie CC, Johnson Breaks Record; Swan Sets Diving Marks
BUFFALO — Members of the Jamestown Community College swimming & diving team made the return trip on I-90 from Erie CC with smiles on their faces as the men came home with a 2-1 record, and Maxim Johnson (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa / King Edward VII School) set another program record.
Johnson broke his record in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:51:36. The sophomore also won the 50-yard butterfly with a 24.70 and the 100-yard free in 50:83. The Jayhawks also claimed fifth and sixth in the event, with Rinat Kilimullin (Kazan, Russia / Boarding Lyceum NO. 7) clocking a 1:03:60 and Lukas Baer (Jamestown / Maple Grove) a 1:05:13. Johnson’s time was good enough to take first by more than five seconds.
The Jayhawks also took home first in the 50-yard free, with Brady Lindstrom (Lakewood/Southwestern) doing the damage in 23:16, just edging out Monroe by .05 seconds. Lindstrom also claimed top position in 50-yard breaststroke in 30:45. Steve Zentz (Dunkirk/ Dunkirk) was fourth in the event, notching a 34.84, and Kalimullin came in seventh with a 39.77.
Lindstrom brought home a third in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:17:17. Zentz was the runner-up in the 500-yard free, with a time of 5:53:21.
WOMEN
JAYHAWKS SWEEP
BUFFALO — The Jamestown CC women were again dominant as they swept the WNYAC swimming and diving meet at Erie CC.
Newcomer Ashlynn Swan (Jamestown/ Southwestern brought home a pair of first-place dives that also broke program records. She notched a score of 154.12 in the 3-meter event and 210.60 in the 1-meter contest. Shaylyn Owens (Delevan / Pioneer) earned third with 99.67.
In the main pool, it was Ella Fosberg (Jamestown/ Southwestern) gutting out the distance championship with a 13:32:62 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Sticking with the long swims, Fosberg also won the 500 free, with a 6:33:55, over a minute faster than second place.
Madison Kramer (Falconer/ Falconer) and Stacey Blackler (Edenvale, Gauteng, South Africa / Edanvale HS) took the top two spots on the podium in 200 free with a 2:07:31 and 2:30:29, respectively.
In the 50 free, the Jayhawks had another solid showing, with Paiden Wittmeyer (Stockton/ Cassadaga Valley) clocking in first at 27:86 and Shalynn Owens scoring fifth at 33:35.
Lindsey Spitz (Jamestown/Jamestown) brought home a first-place showing in the 200 individual medley, notching a 2:48:06.
Turning to the butterfly, Kramer was victorious there in 28:65, while Wittmeyer was right behind her in 31.02.
Blackler claimed a silver in 100 free, clocking a 1:07:53. She was just edged out by Erie CC. Kramer also won the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 29:91. Jamestown CC took first and third in the 50 breaststroke with times of 37.04 and 40.53 from Spitz and Blackler.
Lastly, the Jayhawks’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Wittmeyer, Spitz, Owens and Fosberg took another win for Jamestown.
