Heading To Highmark
Jamestown Rallies Past Orchard Park, Advances To Section VI Final
ORCHARD PARK — A group of Jamestown girls are going to get to experience Highmark Stadium like they never have before.
For a half of Friday’s Section VI Division 1 flag football semifinal, it looked like that wouldn’t be the case.
Despite being outscored 13-0 in the first half, No. 3 Jamestown stormed back in the final 20 minutes to beat No. 2 Orchard Park 19-13 on Friday night.
The victory sends the Red & Green into Monday’s 5 p.m. championship game against No. 1 Clarence at the home of the Buffalo Bills.
Grayson Bloomquist got Jamestown on the board with 17 minutes left in the game when she caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Ella Propheter. The Red & Green missed the conversion, but were back in the game.
Then, with eight minutes left, Bloomquist caught another touchdown from Propheter to tie the game.
Propheter then turned a long punt return into great field position and eventually gave her team the lead with a rushing touchdown.
Trailing 19-13, the Quakers marched into Jamestown territory, but were stopped on fourth-and-goal with 1 second remaining.
Propheter completed 20 of 25 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns to go along with a 1-point conversion. She also rushed seven times for 66 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Propheter added 10 flag pulls and three pass breakups.
Bloomquist caught seven passes for 82 yards and the two touchdowns. Kate Kathman added four catches for 41 yards and Abbee Brandow caught a 1-point conversion.
Kaylee Leeper picked up 45 yards offensively and broke up four passes defensively. She also intercepted an Orchard Park conversion attempt.
Maddie Strickland had five flag pulls and three sacks, and Karlee Rock had an interception.
The Red & Green have a big hurdle come Monday. When they took on Clarence last Friday, the Red Devils won 47-7 at Strider Field.
