Lancaster Upends Raiders
LANCASTER –Lancaster (9-4-1, 6-1) was a 9-2 winner over Jamestown (1-9, 1-8) in Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 baseball.
Matt Jandzinski pitched five innings for the winners, striking out four and walking two before giving way to Nick Petrunyak, who fanned two in the final two innings.
Riley Piazza was on the hill for Jamestown, throwing 5 1/3 innings with three strikeouts and one walk while Chris Navarro finished things off.
Billy Morris had three doubles and three RBIs in the win while Pat Cole added a single and a double.
Juan Matos had three hits with a double for Jamestown and Cam Melendez added an RBI double.
DUNKIRK TOPS GOWANDA BY ONE
GOWANDA — Dunkirk (11-3, 7-1 CCAA West 1) was an 8-7 winner over host Gowanda (4-7, 3-5 CCAA East 2) in nonleague play.
The Marauders scored two runs in the top of the seventh and held the Panthers to just one in the bottom of the frame to secure the win.
“My guys competed for seven innings but came up short against a tough team,” Gowanda head coach Tim Smith said.
“We learned from this and will come back stronger tomorrow”
Bryson Travis threw 2.2 innings with two strikeouts and four walks, Tanner Schrantz threw two with a strikeout and four walks, and Mike Porpiglia finished things off with a strikeout and four hits through the final 2.1 innings for Dunkirk.
Gowanda used a committee on the hill, with Blake Herman getting the start and throwing two innings before giving way to Alex Pachucinski, Tyler Smith, Drew Shull and Cole Herman.
Alex Ahlstrom had a pair of hits in the win with an RBI, while Jack Lanski, Donovon Lockett and Philip Messina all ripped doubles for the Marauders, with Messina grabbing two RBIs.
John Ondus and Maddox Browning each ripped triples in the loss, while Tyler Smith had two RBIs.
CARDS DOWN BEARS
FREWSBURG — Randolph took a 6-0 lead in the first two innings and beat Frewsburg 10-4 in nonleague action.
Every starter but one had a hit for the Cardinals (7-2, 4-1 CCAA Division 2 East) with Isaac Hind’s double being the only one for extra bases.
Hind scored on an error before Ashton Bushey and Dillon Schrader scored on Wyatt Adams’ two-run single in the first inning. Randolph then scored three runs on a pair of errors in the second inning.
The Bears (5-5, 3-2 CCAA Division 2 West) scored three runs on two Cardinals errors in the third inning.
The teams combined for 10 hit batters and 10 of the 14 runs were unearned.
Isaac Hind threw a complete-game two-hitter with four strikeouts for the Cardinals.
Jake Stearns and Traden Gray had the Bears’ lone hits. Jack Yost, Stearns and Payton Dustin combined for 13 strikeouts on the mound.
