Clymer Proceeds With New Playground

CLYMER — Clymer’s new playground has been designed, with construction coming in late June.
It was confirmed for the town of Clymer recently that the town received a grant to place a second playground in the town park in conjunction with what already exists. Since then, a design day was held and a design for the playground has been selected.
During a recent Town Board meeting, Todd Kolstee, deputy town supervisor, said a design day was held at Clymer Central School with about 20 kids participating, and a later meeting was held that same day at the Dutch Village Restaurant for adults, with about 15 people there.
Community building days for the playground are scheduled for June 25 to 27.
“We do have two designs now that have been developed, based on the kids’ designs and the feedback that was received at the Dutch Village,” Kolstee said. “Wendy (Trisket, town clerk) also posted them on Facebook and we actually got quite a bit of feedback, I thought.”
Kolstee added that both designs were good and either one would work well, though there seemed to be a 50/50 split on preference as to which option to choose. He said it seems like parents with younger children preferred option one as activities included did not seem quite as aggressive as some included in option two.
“I think that’s the one we have most likely settled on,” Kolstee said.
Additionally, the town will have a weekly call with those giving the grant to the town, KABOOM!, to have continued discussion and for updates until the June building days. Town Supervisor Brian Willink said he thought the community feedback was fantastic.
“The community input we got was fantastic I thought with both the Facebook posts that you had and the comments we got from people in the community,” Willink said. “It was all positive, but it was you know, ‘this one’s pretty good, and this one is a little better for this reason.'”
The town is now looking to get people involved and interested in helping get the playground built in June. It was noted that the Ralph C Wilson Foundation is the one behind the money with KABOOM! being the ones facilitating everything. It was also noted that everything came together really quickly and that on building days they would also be looking for people to be willing to provide things like food, besides also being willing to help volunteer to build the playground. Kolstee said it would be similar to what they did before with the first playground, but maybe at a larger scale.
“That’s the good thing, we know we can do it because we did it before,” Willink said.
The official playground design was shared to the Clymer Town Clerk Facebook page on Friday morning, including the updated color scheme which has changed to maroon and gold. Willink thanked Kolstee for the work he has put into this, adding that it seemed like it was more work than originally anticipated.
