Swabik Excels As Sherman Downs Maple Grove

SHERMAN — John Swabik scored 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, during a 21-11 third quarter as Sherman pulled away from Maple Grove in a 55-47 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West win.

Swabik finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and four assists for the Wildcats (6-2, 6-2). Derek Sears added 13 points, three steals and three assists; Gerald Carris had 12 points; and Keith Gormley picked up seven rebounds and five steals.

The Red Dragons (7-2, 7-2) pulled within as few as four points during the fourth quarter, but Sears sealed the game with four free throws down the stretch.

Drew Kelemen led Maple Grove with 9 points and six steals; Cam Crist had 9 points, four assists and four rebounds; and Collin McPherson grabbed seven rebounds.

Cooper Brown led the Panthers (0-7, 0-7) with 14 points and 11 rebounds while Gabe Roth had five assists.

CURRAN POWERS GATORS

ALLEGANY — Tyler Curran was a problem for Dunkirk all game as the Allegany-Limestone seinor scored 23 points in the Gators’ 64-30 Division 1 West victory.

The game got off to a close start, with the Gators holding just a 10-7 lead at the end of the first, but they exploded in the second quarter, pulling away with a 29-16 lead at the half and never looking back.

The bright spot for Dunkirk was Carlito Villafane, who scored 9 points on three 3-pointers, while pulling in five rebounds. Tim Brown also continued to haul in boards, putting up 13 more in the loss.
