Time For Another Ronald Reagan Redux

To The Reader’s Forum: Well, it’s time once again for another Ronald Reagan redux — “There you go again”; this time it’s for financial-turned-political columnist Tom Morgan. In his 3/11/19 column Tom tries to explain the immigrant “crisis”, thus “emergency”, at the U.S. southern border. His commentary becomes derailed because he simply repeats the rhetoric of DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen without critical thought and spews corresponding thoughtless rhetoric. First ask: “Why are people coming to America from Central America?” Severe poverty and violence in ...

The Energy Innovation And Carbon Dividend Act Should Be Supported

To The Reader’s Forum: In his recent commentary, Daniel McLaughlin dismisses the threat posed by human-caused global warming. However, in its report “Catastrophe Modelling and Climate Change,” Lloyd’s of London states that the 8 inches of sea-level rise off the tip of Manhattan increased Superstorm Sandy’s surge losses by 30 percent, and that “Further increases in sea level in this region may non-linearly increase the loss potential from similar storms.” This document also asserts that there is conclusive evidence that climate change is human-caused. Moreover, in ...

Help The Lake, Don’t Just Beautify It

To The Reader’s Forum: I read with interest The Post-Journal’s Feb. 19 editorial on the fact that Lakewood’s supposed “Save The Lake Projects” are really mere beautifucations projects. I don’t mind money being spent on projects that will actually help the lake, but these won’t. The Lowe Rain Garden would be in an area that has little sedimentation, whereas there is great shoaling a few houses down due to the creek that empties there. I also object to the loss of business to the struggling businesses in the village that the Chautauqua Avenue projects would incur. ...

Reader Disappointed By CLA Subscription Plan

To The Readers Forum: The CLA noted in the March 12 article that they may have to become a subscription service organization based upon local and individual donations Can CLA decide how their services are distributed based on donations really? I have a hard time believing the government (at whatever level of government) and other grants from foundations that are given to CLA are specific to one area of the lake. Aren’t the funds for Chautauqua Lake — not the northern section of the lake, or not to just those residents who supplement the government and grant funds. I am ...

It’s Important To Get Lake Issues Right

To The Reader’s Forum: Thank you for the editorial comment on Sunday, March 10, we appreciate the coverage The Post-Journal has given to Chautauqua Lake and the problems it currently faces. Every issue you spoke about has been discussed in our CLA board meetings as we try to find the answers to improve the lake, you could have had a seat at our table and fit right in. The 10 items submitted to the DEC are real, real issues, real problems, that need to be addressed in our current lake management strategy. As you mentioned there is a consensus statement with all lake organizations — ...

CLP Responds To CLA Comments

To The Reader’s Forum: As our practice in most cases, the Chautauqua Lake Partnership will not respond to specific allegations or comments made by the Chautauqua Lake Association (CLA) President and Executive Director in a March 5, 2019, Jamestown Post-Journal article. However, we’ll make a couple exceptions in this case. It’s unfortunate CLA management feels it necessary to pass judgment on County Executive Borrello’s Weed Management Consensus Strategy before a draft has been released. The Partnership appreciates Mr. Borrello’s leadership, is hopeful for a result which ...
