Reader Sings Praises To JHS Concert Band

To The Reader’s Forum:

I just had the extreme pleasure of attending the spring concert of the Jamestown High School bands. Plural, because there is the Symphonic band – kind of the junior varsity, and the Concert band, all seniors.

The Symphonic band played some very difficult music flawlessly, and of course, the concert band was perfection. I was surprised that there was not standing room only.

The Jamestown community should support these excellent young musicians wholeheartedly. And, folks, it’s free.

I had the privilege of being in the band when Arthur Goranson was the director, and I’m happy to say that Mrs. Murray has carried on the tradition of excellence in the JHS music department. There were two guest conductors who were also excellent, and one of them – Mr. Coccnagnia was so well liked that he got a standing ovation before he even took the podium.
