Happy Easter

Today is Easter Sunday.

Many area residents will spend part of the day worshipping at church or sharing Easter dinner with family and friends. Children will enjoy finding candy in their Easter basket or, for those who haven’t done so already, with an Easter Sunday egg hunt.

This is the holiest day of the year for Christians. The celebration of Jesus’ resurrection gives cause for Christians the world over to celebrate the victory of their savior over death. Easter’s significance to Christians cannot be minimized by the commercialization of the holiday. The season, from Good Friday to Easter, is a time to celebrate the Biblical prophecy of the eternal life of Jesus Christ and the redemption promised to all.

Just as the Bible tells of the renewal Easter brings to believers, the holiday marks a yearly period of rebirth and renewal for all; an end to a long, cold winter and the promise of the summer months.

For all of us – religious or not – Easter marks a beginning. It’s a notion worth celebrating.

Happy Easter.
