Duane A. Hill

With a heart full of treasured memories, we announce the passing of Duane A. Hill,77, who entered into rest on March 17, 2024.

Born in Gowanda on March 7, 1947, to the late Lester and Gladys (Johnson) Hill, Duane’s life was a tapestry of hard work, dedication, and love which touched the hearts of all who knew him.

Duane’s journey began in a small, tight-knit community where he flourished, graduating from Cattaraugus Central Schools and subsequently earning an Associate’s Degree in Business from Jamestown Community College. His passion for education continued at SUNY Fredonia where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Business. His professional life was marked by the same dedication, from his childhood job collecting eggs for Mosher’s Farm to his early days as a dairy farmer. Duane’s career path saw him contribute to Austin’s Milling in South Dayton before rounding out his working years as a beloved Procurement Specialist at the Cattaraugus County DPW.

Duane shared 57 years of wedded bliss with his loving wife, Cheryl A. Ingersoll. His legacy is carried on through his cherished daughter, Kimberly (Darren) M. Jackson, his brother, Darryl (Eleanor) Hill, and sister, Bonita (John) Salisbury, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will remember him fondly.

Not one to sit idle, Duane revelled in pursuits that brought joy to himself and others. He owned a horse which he proudly rode in Memorial Day parades, and his innate talent for building things with his hands was evident in his many creations. Music brought a special light into Duane’s life; his love for singing was only eclipsed by his profound love for his family and countless friends.

Duane A. Hill lived fully, loved genuinely, and left behind a legacy of integrity and joy. His life was a living example of how to cherish every moment, and he will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those he has left behind.
