Ross Grange Hosts Area Librarians

April is National Grange Month and Ross Grange tries to do something special each year. This year grange members hosted local librarians for lunch at the Falcon’s Nest.

Each librarian shared projects they are doing unique to their community. Judith Whittaker of Ellington said they have set up an outside internet connection to be used anytime. They have outside groups bring in programs and have sponsored youth safety programs. Falconer was represented by Laurie Becker and Lisa Conti, who noted they sponsor summer concerts and summer reading programs. They received a grant for inside upgrading. Fluvanna director Lynn Grundstrom brought a display and said they received a grant to make the outside more accessible. Several groups meet in the building and they visit Heritage Green frequently. Dawn Swanson and Shannon Gilevski from Kennedy noted they have special programs for homeschooled students, a student book club and youth summer program. Beth Hadley from Sinclairville said they take programs into the community, reaching pre-schoolers and special needs students. A new program “Time Out For Parents” has been well received. Handouts were given from each library to those present listing current activities and dates of events.

Mary Jane Griffith, Ross treasurer, presented each library with a donation to help continue their good work.

A business meeting followed with the March minutes accepted. The treasurer’s report was given and also accepted. Donations were voted to the Farmer/Neighbor Dinner and New York State Grange Museum.

The May meeting will be a memorial program with a dish to share lunch.
