Thomas D. Zofchak

Thomas D. Zofchak

Thomas D. Zofchak, 83, longtime resident of Kennedy, NY, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Monday, Jan. 29, 2024. He was born April 28, 1940, in Waterman, PA, the son of the late George Zofchak and Emma Steele Zofchak.

Tom attended Homer City High School and loved to tell the story of how he lived on his own for the first time as a young man in New Orleans. After moving away from Louisiana, he started work delivering trees in the Christmas Tree Capital of the World, Indiana, PA until relocating to Western NY. There he was employed by Carborundum-Monofrax for 37 years (even though he always said it was 40 years). After retiring, he decided to start his next career as a bus driver for Falconer Central School where he thoroughly enjoyed his time driving “his kids” for the next 20 years.

Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, and they could tell you all about his uncanny ability to deliver hilarious one-liners while keeping a straight face. Nothing made him happier than when his friends popped in to visit and have a few beers. Weekends would find him in the garage, listening to country music and doo-wop, and using the intercom to call his wife and play her love songs that reminded him of her. Throughout his life, you could find him snowmobiling, hunting, four wheeling, and in later years, spending time at the family camp, leaning on his spool, and watching wildlife – his piece of heaven on earth.

Surviving are his wife, Sue Walker Zofchak, whom he married April 7, 1973 on Sprague Hill in Falconer; three daughters: Stacie Brink Moretti of Jamestown, Thomasen Zofchak Bennett of Pennsylvania; Michele Zofchak of the Florida Keys; also surviving are Judy Zofchak, mother of his children, Terry and Thomasen Zofchak; six grandchildren: Tamara Zofchak (who has lived with her grandparents for the last 17 years), Lauren Moretti, Aaron Moretti, DJ Mills, Jacob Bennett, Ian Bennett; his beloved pup, Khloe; a half-brother James (Cheryl) Boyer of Florida; three half-sisters: Pat (John) Coffman, Karen (Chico) Catalano and Joyce Blystone all of Pennsylvania.

Besides his father and mother, Tom was preceded in death by a son Terry Zofchak; his stepmother Mabel Zofchak; a brother Henry “Bud” Zofchak, a sister Georgian Anthony, and his brother-in-law and best friend, Dan Walker.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024 in the Falconer Funeral Home. Tom’s funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 4 p.m. Rev. Mike Herdzik pastor of New Beginnings Baptist Church, Kennedy will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to MarrVelous Pet Rescue https://mprescues.org/donate/ – the organization that helped Tom and Sue (and so many other people) find the furry family members missing in their lives.
