Julie Aimee Rice

Julie Aimee Rice

Julie Aimee Rice, 53, of Ripley, N.Y., passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

Born in Erie, Pa., on Jan. 24, 1969, she was a daughter of Mary (Hynes) Hintenach and the late John Hintenach.

Julie was determined to make an impact on the world, and those who knew her, saw her do just that. In her office and quality manager roles, she accomplished feat after feat, passing strict technical audits with zero findings. In her local town board member role, she successfully preserved the tranquility of rural living. She remained focused on the health and safety of her community, while demanding transparency with the highest level of ethical standards, as she obtained a majority of votesto support those values. In her personal life, she helped millions of future cancer patients through the insights that medical science learned from her journey. Julie was an inspiration to many people and provided hope to the lives that she touched.

When we think of Julie, we think of laughter, of perseverance, of colorful bluebirds and dragonflies in the sky, of beautiful blooming plants indoors and outside, of the love of outdoor adventures and hiking, and of being the best that you can be in life. When we think of Julie, we smile and hold a good thought in our heart as we recall the strength of Julie’s faith and the favorite Bible verses that encouraged her. She made it through a journey of pancreatic cancer that few, if any others, could have managed. She is known at the Mayo Clinic as the “Legend” as she never ceased to amaze her team of doctors. And a special thanks to the medical team at UPMC Hamot who took Julie and her family and friends into their care for her final steps on earth. She made this journey through life with beauty, dignity, faith and grace. She will be greatly missed by those she touched in life. Heaven now has another beautiful angel, who will watch over us all.

Julie is survived by her devoted husband and soulmate, Don Rice; her son, Alex Hintenach; and her stepdaughter, Katie Rice. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Hintenach; and two sisters: Maureen Tholen (husband, Kevin Tholen) and Martha Coll (husband, Drew Coll); along with many other loving family and friends.

Family will receive friends at Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2502 Sassafras Street for a celebration of life on Friday, May 13, 2022, from 6 p.m. until the time of the service at 7:30 p.m., and may attend the Funeral Mass on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, 2401 West 38th Street.
