Helen S. Stronz

Helen S. Stronz, 89, of Jamestown, N.Y., passed away at 3:49 pm Tuesday, Nov/ 24, 2020, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.

A Jamestown area resident since 1976, she was born Aug. 25, 1931, in Grayson, La., a daughter of the late Ollie and Luella Moffett Strebeck.

Following high school she earned her bachelor’s degree from Louisiana Tech University.

While living in Ohio, she worked as a registered dietician in Barberton and Medina, Ohio. Before her retirement she was a registered dietician for Heritage Village in Gerry, N.Y., and had previously worked as a registered dietician at the former Jamestown General Hospital and the Southwestern Central School System.

She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Helen was an active member of the James-town Chapter of Zonta International, where she was a past president and received the Zontian of the Year. She was a member of the Registered Dietician Association and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and the Chautauqua County Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who loved to cook, bake and would spend many hours at her sewing machine. She never saw a cookbook she didn’t think she needed.

Surviving are her seven children: Sheila Stronz of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Michelle Stronz of New Haven, Conn., Stephanie Stronz (Greg) Kowalczyk of Orchard Park, N.Y., Ter-ry (Katie) Stronz of James-town, N.Y., Kevin (Kris-tine) Stronz of Lakewood, N.Y., Mary Stronz (Chris) Campion of Cypress, Tex-as, and Nora Stronz (Jacob) Schrantz of Jamestown, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren: 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Hilda Kay Moffett of Katy, Texas, and two brothers: Howard Strebeck of Grayson, La., and Clayton Strebeck of Alexandria, La.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael P. Stronz whom she married Feb. 5, 1955, and who died Nov. 3, 2014; a son, Timothy Stronz, who died in 2001; and two sisters: Janette Strebeck and Margaret Johnson.

Helen’s family would like to thank the staff and residents of Orchard Grove for the kindness and care they provided and to the staff of Heritage Green and Chautauqua County Hospice and Palliative Care for the comfort and loving care they gave to Helen in her final days.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, public visitation will not be observed.
