Albert has been a resident of the Cascade Heights Residential home for the past three years in Longwood, Fla., after having spent his life in Cassadaga.
A proud veteran, Albert left high school to join the Merchant Marines in 1945. He continued his service in 1946 by enlisting in the U.S. Army, and was deployed to Inchon, Korea during the Korean War.
After an honorable discharge in 1948, Albert received training to become an electrician and found work at Niagara Mohawk in 1950. It was during this time that he married Esther Green on Nov. 12, 1949. A loving relationship that endured 59 years and resulted in five children: Diane, Joanne (Bob), Cynthia (Bob), Beverly (Dan), and Brian (Connie). In the years of his retirement, Albert spent much of his time with his family, which includes nine grandchildren, and later on seven greatgrandchildren.
Albert was also well known as an award winning wood carver and artist, a passionate volunteer that spent time at Camp Gross Cassadaga, a member of the Cassadaga Legion Post 1280, a volunteer at the Cassadaga Baptist Food Pantry, and an avid horticulturist. Albert was also strong in his faith and was a proud member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church of South Stockton-Cassadaga.
Albert was a son to Frank and Minnie Olmstead and a brother to Bessie, Robert, Evelyn and Pauline.
The family of Albert Olmstead will have a memorial service in Cassadaga, during either the spring or summer of 2020.
