Betty Lee Ray Wade

RANDOLPH — Betty Lee Ray Wade, 86, of the Randolph Manor, formerly of 9 School St., Randolph, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018, in the emergency room at UPMC Chautauqua WCA.

She was born Aug. 20, 1931, in Conewango Valley, N.Y., the daughter of the late Raymond and Alice E. (Bagg) Ray.

Betty was a 1949 graduate of Randolph Central School and received her Bachelor of Science from SUNY Cortland. In addition to being a homemaker for her family, Betty was a former physical education teacher at Randolph Central School and had assisted her husband, John as the book- keeper of their Myers Wade Insurance Agency in Randolph.

She was a communicant of the Grace Episcopal Church in Randolph, where she served on the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Randolph American Legion Unit 181 Auxiliary and the Randolph Veterans of Foreign Wars 6533 Auxiliary. Betty was a longstanding member of Conewango Forks (Cardinal Hills) Golf Course in Randolph, was member of the former Cherry Creek Order of the Eastern Star Golden Fidelity Chapter and a charter member of the Randolph Historical Society. She also enjoyed her Wednesday Bridge Club.

Betty and her late husband, John traveled extensively and enjoyed meeting new friends from all over the world and sharing many memorable experiences with them. They had traveled all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and several trips abroad to Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, South America, where they enjoyed many cruises to the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Greek Isles, the South Pacific and steam boating down the Mississippi River.

She is survived by four daughters: Patricia R. Durnell of Lakewood, Jodi R.W. Brown and her husband, Gary C. Brown, Susan Lee Emley and her husband, David and Nancy Lee Ellis and her husband, Kevin, all of Randolph; 10 grandchildren: Aaron, Nicholas, Kevin and Tracy Jo Emley, Tyler and Todd Durnell, Eric Brown, Ashley Everett, Jena Sue Blocker and Lacy Lee Roldan; five stepgrandchildren; a brother, Harold L. Ray of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Alice Ray; her husband, John Searle Wade, whom she married on June 27, 1953, and who preceded her on Jan. 22, 2009; and an infant brother, Barry Ray.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday (June 30, 2018) in the Grace Episcopal Church in Randolph. The Rev. Thomas Broad, rector, will officiate. The family will receive family and friends from 4-7 p.m., Friday in the VanRensselaer and Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph. Burial will be in the Randolph Cemetery.
