Doris V. Bergfeldt 1930-2026
Doris V. Bergfeldt
Doris Viola Wahlgren Bergfeldt, 96, of Jamestown, passed away peacefully at Heritage Green on Wednesday May 20, 2026. She was born in Jamestown on January 1, 1930, to the late Charles E. and Anna Rosell Wahlgren.
A 1948 JHS graduate, Doris attended Mt. Sinai School of Nursing in Cleveland, OH before returning to work at Crawford Furniture as a receptionist for over 30 years. Doris was the oldest living and lifelong member of First Lutheran Church, notably baptized, confirmed, and married in the sacred space.
There was not an animal Doris did not love. Her cats, both named Sugar, had warm spaces in her heart. Cooking and baking were not only hobbies, but skilled crafts Doris shared with many mouths. She was also known for knitting. In prior years, Doris and her family spent every weekend on the waters of Chautauqua Lake.
Proud and steady in her Swedish Heritage, Doris belonged to the Vikings as well as the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. Remarkably, she was a breast cancer survivor of 48 years.
Doris’ life will be forever cherished by her daughters, Wendy (David) Cartledge of Columbia, SC and Laurie (Bob) Gengo of Raleigh, NC; her grandchildren, Lt. Commander William Brantley Harvey IV, Laura (Dr. John David) Wahlgren Harvey Wise, Stuart Coggshell (Tricia) Harvey, Zac (Heidi) Cartledge, Alex (Sara Stewart) Cartledge, and Jared Nicholas Polanco; her great grandchildren, Lillian Harvey, Emma Adelaide and Benjamin McCray Wise, and Zoe Leigh, Zane David, and Clara Wren Cartledge; her like-daughters, Becky Nystrom and Penny Erb; as well as special family friends, Lynn Langworthy and Kathy Dennis.
Besides her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, George Allen Bergfeldt, whom she married November 21, 1953, and who passed away September 13, 2017.
The memorial service for Doris will be at 1:00pm Friday, May 22, 2023, at Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Dan Nagle will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service from 12-1pm Friday at Lind’s. Burial will be privately observed at Lake View Cemetery.
Memorials in Doris’ name may be made to First Lutheran Church, 120 Chandler St. Jamestown, NY 14701 or to Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road. Jamestown, NY 14701.
