Despite constant rains in the local area of Chautauqua County throughout Thursday night into Friday there have been only a minimum amount of flooding problems reported.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department reported having no flooding complaints sent to them as of early Friday afternoon when speaking with the Post-Journal. The National Weather Service in Buffalo also had received no reports for the Jamestown area.

“I don’t know of any flooding reports,” John Rozbicki, Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Buffalo said. “I know there has been a lot of rain in that region, but no flooding reports that I know of.”

The rain did cause temporary road closures Friday morning, specifically for Jones and Gifford Avenue in Jamestown and Kabob Road in the town of Stockton. National Grid reported minor power outages for Friday in Busti, Chautauqua and South Valley. There were also scanner reports earlier in the day Friday of flooded basements in Jamestown and tree limbs on power lines.

The daily observations in the Buffalo Forecast Area from the National Weather Service in Buffalo showed 2.46 inches of rain for Jamestown and 0.92 for Dunkirk.

The wind was a slightly higher concern, with Chautauqua County being under a High Wind Advisory along with Erie, Niagara, Orleans and Genesee Counties. The advisory began at 9:12 a.m. Friday, lasting until 2 p.m. Saturday.

The advisory warns that “gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.” The National Weather Service asked people to use extra caution when driving “especially if operating a high profile vehicle” and to “secure outdoor objects.”
