The National Comedy Center is again receiving national attention.

People magazine, as part of its cover story for the July edition, named the comedy center one of the “100 Reasons to Love America.” The edition is currently available on newsstands and online.

“We are proud to be included on this prestigious list created by People Magazine,” said Journey Gunderson, National Comedy Center executive director. “As Americans hit the road over the July 4th holiday weekend and beyond, we hope they’ll come visit Jamestown to see for themselves why the National Comedy Center is a national treasure and a great reason to love America.

This is one more validation of everything our visitors have been saying about the experience. It exceeds everyone’s expectations, and I’m glad People has recognized it in this national context.”

The National Comedy Center is one of three museums to be named in People magazine’s annual list of national attractions.

Specifically, People cited the comedy center as “the country’s first museum devoted to comedy” and “worth the trip to Jamestown, N.Y., Lucille Ball’s hometown.”

The recent promotion is just one of many to highlight the comedy center.

USA Today readers earlier this year ranked the nonproft No. 2 out of 20 new attractions. In March, Congress designated the National Comedy Center as the United States’ “official cultural institution dedicated to presenting the vital story of comedy and preserving its heritage for future generations.”

Furthermore, the comedy center recently celebrated hosting visitors from all 50 states. “We’re thrilled that visitors already traveled to the National Comedy Center from all 50 states in our first few months,” Gunderson said in April.

The comedy center will celebrate its first birthday in August.

This year’s headlining acts include John Mulaney and Sebastian Maniscalco. Mulaney will perform at Northwest Arena on Friday, Aug. 9, at 7 p.m. and later at 9:30 p.m. Maniscalco will be at the arena Saturday, Aug. 10, at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Mulaney, who hosted Saturday Night Live last month, began writing for SNL in 2008, where he also appeared as a “Weekend Update” correspondent and co-created memorable characters such as “Stefon” with Bill Hader. He has spent the past year touring the country with his most recent show, “Kid Gorgeous,” which was released as a Netflix original special last year and won the Emmy award for Outstanding Writing in a Variety Special.

Maniscalco broke records in January with four sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden, selling the most tickets in a weekend for any comedy engagement in the history of the Garden. In 2018, Maniscalco broke similar comedy box-office records for Radio City Music Hall.
