Gruber Strikes Out 14 For Hornets; Morgan Leads Panama

FORESTVILLE — Megan Gruber threw a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts and one walk as Forestville beat nonleague Cassadaga Valley 9-4 in softball Monday.

Jade Work went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Emily Lillie was 3 for 3 with a run scored for the Hornets (5-2).

Forestville led 5-4 before putting the game away with a four-run bottom of the sixth inning. Madison Christian was hit by a pitch and Lillie reached on a bunt single before a walk to Gruber loaded the bases with no outs. Jenna Emerson, Iris Muck and Work had RBI singles before the winning was over.

Andrea Johnson combined with Anna Burlingame on a seven-hitter with six strikeouts for the Cougars (1-7). Johnson also had two of her team’s four hits.

MORGAN PACES PANAMA

BEMUS POINT — Kylie Morgan smacked three hits, including a triple and a home run, and drove in four runs to lead Panama to a 12-4 victory over Maple Grove in a Division 2 West game.

Corinne Hovey (triple) also had three hits, and Cassie Lyon collected a pair of doubles and drove in a run in support of winning pitcher Jess Lyon.

Losing pitcher Lydia Darr led the Red Dragons (1-5, 1-3) with two hits, including a double. Also collecting two hits for Maple Grove were Harper Dawes (RBI) and Alex Dawes (double). Teammate Alex Caldwell added a triple.

ROSS SHOWS THE WAY

SALAMANCA — Charli Ross tossed a four-hitter, struck out seven and walked three to lead Salamanca to a 7-4 Division 2 East victory over Cattaraugus-Little Valley.

Ross also helped her own cause with a double and two RBIs, helping the Warriors improve to 3-5 overall and 2-4 in the division.

Maddy Rogan struck out 10 and scattered six hits for the Timberwolves. Casey Knoblach contributed a pair of hits.
