BPU fiber project reaches ‘milestone’

A “huge milestone” is being reached on the Board of Public Utilities’ Fiber project, as BPU General Manager Kris Sellstrom has reported to the BPU during their June meeting that the make ready work for the project was set to be completed during the week of the meeting, the last full week of June. A childcare center in Mayville and an area college are getting millions of dollars to expand daycare. On Tuesday, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced more than $106 million in awards through the Childcare Capital Construction Funding Program to support 37 projects that will create and expand access to quality childcare across New York State. Among those awarded funds were Chautauqua Lake Child Care Center, which was awarded $4,734,578 and Jamestown Community College, which was awarded $2,895,600. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), ranking member of the Senate Aging Committee, along with 14 of her Senate colleagues, introduced the Medicare Cost Cap Act to create a $5,000 cap on out-of-pocket costs for Traditional Medicare (Parts A and B) beneficiaries.
