Silent Auction Raises Funds For Library
BEMUS POINT — On Friday night more than 500 guests poured into the Ellicottville Brewing on Chautauqua to support the Bemus Point Library. Co-Chairs Mary Ellen Fritz and Sharon Chertoff put together more than 100 gift baskets for a silent auction.
From autographed novels, items from Thurman Thomas, restaurants, wineries, golf, home, garden and Bills Mafia, there was something for everyone to bid on.
The money raised will upgrade the library with $50,000 for the exterior stucco on the roof being replaced and a complete renovation of the community room which hasn’t been touched since the 1930s. That renovation will includSix new computers and a system that hasn’t been updated since 2012.
Fritz stated the public restrooms will all be ADA compliant with ramps.
For the past 200 years Bemus Point has been the center of summer recreation in Chautauqua County. This event kicked off a weekend being called “Bemus is Booming,” which was a preview of more events from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
