Two-Year-Old Found Dead In Pa. River

A two-year old girl who was declared missing Saturday was found dead Sunday in the Allegheny River.Pennsylvania State Police were notified at about 11 a.m. Saturday of a missing child from the area of Valley View Lane in Limestone Township, just north of Tidioute. According to Warren County Coroner Melissa Zydonik, the girl was found in the river.

A determination as to cause of death has not been made, Zydonik said, and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday afternoon. Police reported Saturday that a search was underway for the girl, who was reportedly suspected of having fallen into the river.

According to police, a tracking dog was used to follow the child’s scent Saturday. The dog indicated that the girl had moved from her bedroom to an area near the river. A search involving numerous agencies was conducted. Participating in the search were Pennsylvania State Police, a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter, Tidioute, Tionesta, and Hickory volunteer fire departments, McKean County Tracking Canine, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, the McKean County Special Operations Group Dive Team, and numerous individuals. The outflow at Kinzua Dam was reportedly reduced dramatically to facilitate the search.
