Warren Man Convicted Of Violent Attack

WARREN, Pa. — A Warren man has been found guilty by a jury on all counts stemming from a violent attack that included a hammer throw and smashing the victim’s face into walls.

John Alexander Snyder, 49, was convicted on all charges during a Friday jury trial. Those include aggravated assault, strangulation, simple assault, terroristic threats and hindering apprehension.

The criminal information prepared by the Commonwealth alleged that on Sept. 18, 2019, Snyder “did, among other things, throw a hammer at the victim … causing visible injury while yelling that he was going to kill the victim.

“During the course of the assault, the defendant did punch the victim in the face, drag the victim across a bedroom floor and did smash the victim’s face into walls and the floor multiple times,” the Commonwealth alleged.

“The defendant did also strangle the victim … to stop the victim from screaming.”

The hammer throw struck the victim in the leg and Snyder did “yell at the victim multiple times that he was going to kill the victim while (he) was actively assaulting and strangulating the victim.”

He was also convicted for concealing the victim “in a hidden area behind the closet” knowing that the victim had an active arrest warrant. The Commonwealth alleges that Snyder “after concealing the victim, told the victim to ‘shut the (expletive) up’ and that the victim better not jeopardize his freedom or life.”

Snyder is also a lifetime registrant as a Megan’s Law sexual offender from a 2009 conviction for indecent assault with a victim less than 13.

The charges involved in the recent trial carry a maximum possible penalty of 39 years in prison and fines up to $70,000.
