There have been several changes to the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities the last couple of months, but there will not be a change when it comes to the chair position.

On Thursday, the BPU board approved Greg Rabb to be its chair again.

“I really appreciate your support,” said Rabb, who was first approved to be chair by the board in 2018.

Rabb is a political science professor and international studies and study abroad coordinator at Jamestown Community College and is also a adjunct teacher at State University of New York at Buffalo State.

This months meeting was also the first for three new members — Gregory Anderson, Lana Huston and Kenneth Mark. The new members of the BPU board will replace Terrance Horner, Ralph Wallace and Martha Zenns. Horner was first appointed to the BPU for a four-year term beginning in 2016. Wallace first became a member of the BPU on a two-year term in 2016 and was reappointed to a second two-year term in 2018. Zenns was reappointed to a two-year term in 2018 after first serving a four-year term from 2014-17.

Last month, new members to join the board included Eddie Sundquist, Jamestown mayor, and Grant Olson, Ward 5 councilman.

Traditionally, a citizen member of the board is selected to be the president. The nine members of the board consist of four city positions — Sundquist; two council members, Marie Carrubba and Olson; and public works director, Jeff Lehman. The board also has five citizen members, Rabb, Jim Olson, Anderson, Huston and Mark

Committee assignments were also made during the meeting Thursday. Jim Olson will chair the Finance Committee, with members Lehman and Huston. Grant Olson will chair the Strategic Planning Committee, with members Sundquist and Mark. Marie Carrubba will chair the Personnel Committee, with members Rabb and Anderson.

In other business, the board approved the purchase of a new garbage truck from Navistar Inc. of Loundonville for the cost of $185,629. The 2020 International refuse truck has a 25-cubic yard rear loading collector. The new truck will replace a 2015 International refuse truck that will be sold at auction. The purchase was included in the 2020 solid waste division budget.
