Entries Accepted For Laurel Run Logo Contest

Area artists can put their talents to use by participating in a contest to design the logo for this year’s Laurel Memorial Run and Walk. The person who designs the winning entry will receive a $50 gift card to a business of their choosing. Laurel Run was started in 1997 by Wayne and Elaine Hotelling of Silver Creek. The annual event is named in honor of their oldest daughter. Laurel, who died in 2017, had Down syndrome, and the Laurel Memorial Run/Walk seeks to raise awareness and appreciation about the achievements of people with Down syndrome and other types of disabilities. ...

Fredonia Trustee Rips Firing Of DPW Chief

Trustees made a “hasty decision” last week to fire Fredonia Department of Public Works Director David Bird, Trustee Paul Wandel said Monday. Wandel offered a strident defense of Bird at a Fredonia Board of Trustees workshop. Wandel was the only “no” vote when three trustees voted last week to fire Bird. The fifth trustee, Jon Espersen, couldn’t vote because he wasn’t there. Warren Teen Charged With Attempted Criminal Homicide

A Warren man has been taken to the Warren County Prison on $500,000 bail after allegedly stabbing another person in the neck during a dispute early Tuesday morning. Nathan A. Steinman, 18, of Warren has been charged with first-degree felony criminal attempt - criminal homicide, first-degree felony aggravated assault - attempts to cause serious bodily injury or causes injury with extreme indifference, second-degree felony aggravated assault - attempts to cause or causes bodily injury with a deadly weapon and second-degree misdemeanor recklessly endangering another person. Gas Prices Hit Highest Level In Four Years

The average price for a gallon of gas in Jamestown is five cents higher this week at $4.640, though prices have stabilized in recent days after a late-week increase. After some consistent declines, the national average price for gasoline rose towards the end of last week. Monday’s national average is $4.51, a penny less than May 11 and nearly 50 cents higher than mid-April’s price. Beaujean Road Site To Be Cleaned Up In June

MAYVILLE – A long-time problem property near Chautauqua Lake Central School will soon be cleaned up. During the Chautauqua Town Board meeting, board members approved a bid by Lang Enterprises of Mayville to clean up 7127 Beaujean Road which is located not far from the village line. Since the summer of 2023, neighbors have complained about that residence on Beaujean Road. There were complaints that numerous people were living on the property in outbuildings and tents, burning trash and not using proper sewers.
