CASSADAGA — No injuries were reported, and occupants of a village home were being assisted by the American Red Cross after fire broke out early Tuesday morning.

Crews from numerous area departments were dispatched to 22 High St. around 1:45 a.m. Responding were Cassadaga, Lily Dale, Sinclairville, Chautauqua County Emergency Services, Forestville, Mayville, Stockton, Fredonia and Sheridan.

According to a Facebook post from the Forestville Fire Department Facebook page, there was damage to both the first and second floors of the structure. “Great job to Cassadaga fire on their initial attack and great job to all the mutual aid companies (that) assisted,” the post noted.

Crews had left the scene by 5:25 a.m.

In a news release, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said the fire began on the rear porch “due to the combustion of oil soaked cotton rags.”
