Power Outages Reported As High Winds Arrive

National Grid is reporting power outages in different parts of the south county as high winds have arrived.

As of 10:45 a.m., more than 800 customers were without power in areas that included the towns of Carroll, Poland and South Valley. West of Mayville, in the town of Chautauqua, there were 280 customers impacted.

Other outages are impacting fewer customers. There are 16 reported outages in French Creek, 32 in the Clymer/Sherman area and fewer than 5 in Stockton.

Previous outages reported earlier Friday have been resolved.

A high wind warning remains in effect for all of Western New York through 4 p.m. this evening. Winds will be between 25 to 40 mph, with gusts reaching 60 mph. “Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines,” the National Weather Service office in Buffalo said. “Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.”

The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities said a large circuit serving most of Falconer has tripped causing most of the village to be without power. This power outage has affected the main water pump stations, and all customers in the Falconer area moving into the north side of Jamestown should be on a roily water alert.

“We have several reports of lines down and a tree down on the northside of Jamestown causing outages in the Predergast and Lakeview Avenue areas,” the BPU continued. “Crews are currently working as winds continue to cause transmission distribution issues.”

Starting at $4.00/week.
