Mail Carriers To Collect Donations Saturday

Help feed county residents in need on Saturday by leaving canned goods for postal carriers.

Held on the second Saturday in May each year, Stamp Out Hunger is an event of the National Association of Letter Carriers. United Way has partnered with the NALC to facilitate and promote the event since 1994.

In the last 30 years, Stamp Out Hunger has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive, helping to fill the shelves of food banks in cities and towns throughout the United States.

Last year, the Stamp Out Hunger food drive collected more than 40.3 million pounds of food in one day for people in need. Each year, all of the millions of pounds of charitable donations are collected by letter carriers from residences along their routes.

According to organizers of the event, food collected in Chautauqua County will be delivered directly to the local food pantries in our community. Items collected closer to Buffalo will go to food banks there as well as FeedMore WNY.

To participate, leave donations of non-perishable food in a bag near the mailbox on the second Saturday in May, and mail carriers will pick them up.
