Area Residents Named Co-Chairs Of County Walk To End Alzheimer’s

The Western New York Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association has named Dana Corwin and Zac Hnatysyzn as co-chairs of the 2024 Chautauqua County Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

Corwin is director of the Chautauqua County Office for Aging Services and Hnatysyzn is regional director of community outreach at Culture Care Senior Living in Jamestown.

“The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a meaningful event for me because my mother passed away after struggling with Alzheimer’s for several years,” Corwin said. “Despite the difficulties, we tried to make the best of it and aimed to make things easier for other families going through the same thing, It is a privilege for my family to contribute to keeping memories alive, finding peace, and making progress in the fight against this disease and its impact on people’s lives.”

The 2024 Chautauqua County Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held on Saturday, October 5, at Point Gratiot Park in Dunkirk. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs. The Alzheimer’s Association provides 24/7 care and support to those living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers, and is accelerating critical research to combat this devastating disease.

“Having witnessed firsthand the impact of Alzheimer’s disease through my wife’s grandmother and understanding the toll it can take on families, this cause is particularly close to my heart,” Hnatysyzn said. “It’s more than just a walk; it’s a powerful opportunity to raise awareness, unite our community, and support those affected by this challenging condition.”

According to the latest Alzheimer’s Association Facts and Figures report, nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide unpaid care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In New York state alone, there are more than 426,000 people living with the disease, along with 543,000 caregivers.
