United Arts Appeal Members Plan Offer Special Christmas, New Year’s Programs

From early December through mid-January, the United Arts Appeal of Chautauqua County’s seven member organizations are presenting wonderful holiday entertainment opportunities for your enjoyment. United Arts Appeal of Chautauqua County member organizations are offering a selection of performances during the holiday season.

Three United Arts Appeal members collaborate for “Poinsettia Pops” on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The Jamestown Concert Association presents the Western New York Chamber Orchestra with dance excerpts from The Nutcracker by the Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet. Glen Cortese is artistic director and conductor, and Alissa Stahler is soprano soloist. Lobby doors in the Reg Lenna Center for The Arts in Jamestown open at 6:30 p.m. for pre-concert refreshments and merriment in the lobby, while a Chautauqua Regional Youth Symphony ensemble performs holiday music from the lobby balcony. Tickets are $25, $20 for seniors, $6 for college students, free for under 18, and can be purchased by calling the Reg box office at 484-7070 or online at RegLenna.com.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, at 4 p.m., the 1891 Fredonia Opera House is showing the original holiday special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer as part of Miracle on Main Street. Presented in partnership with Festivals Fredonia and sponsored by the Fredonia Beaver Club, the free screening is immediately followed by the holiday parade and tree-lighting in the park. Infinity Visual and Performing Arts students have a busy December. In addition to their annual Applebee’s pancake breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 8 to 10 a.m., Infinity will host several free events. The holiday recital at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, and holiday show at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 20, are both at the Infinity Arts Cafe. Student performances are televised on Chautauqua Sunrise Access Channel 5, from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21. To learn more, visit InfinityPerformingArts.org/calendar.

The Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet will present the Nutcracker under the artistic direction of Monika Alch. Guest artist Spencer Keith from Boston will dance the Cavalier. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, and 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Reg Lenna Center for The Arts. Tickets range from $14 to $35 and can be purchased by calling the Reg box office at 484-7070 or online at RegLenna.com.

Community Music Project will close the holiday season with presentations of “Twelfth Night.” Attired in renaissance costumes, Chautauqua Chamber Singers perform a mixture of traditional Christmas carols, old and new, at First Lutheran Church in Warren on Saturday, Jan. 11, and at First Presbyterian Church in Jamestown on Sunday, Jan. 12. Both concerts are at 4 p.m. and are free of charge. The Jamestown event will be followed by a pie reception.

In addition to providing operating support for these organizations, the United Arts Appeal also awards grants for arts projects to individual artists and other organizations through its Projects Pool Grants Program. Announcement of the 2020 grants process will be made early next year.
