Becker To Attend Girls’ Conference

The American Legion Auxiliary from the Herman Kent Post 777 has selected Madelaine Becker from Maple Grove Middle-High School to attend the New York State Girls’ State Conference this year which will be held July 1 through July 7 at SUNY Brockport. Abigail Newman was chosen as this year’s alternate.

Madelaine Becker is a junior at Maple Grove and is the daughter of Sarah Tranum and David Becker. She is a member of the Senior High Honor Society, and has experience in student Council at Maple Grove, where she was President of her class for two years. Madelaine is a member of the varsity volleyball team at school and participates in many out of school tournaments and leagues. She spends time volunteering for the national charitable organization called AMBUCS, where she helps build trikes for people with disabilities. Madelaine is a member of the Maple Grove Senior High band, and has been playing the saxophone for six years. After high school, she plans to attend college at Jamestown Community College for design. Madelaine wishes to thank the American Legion Auxiliary for this opportunity.

Abigail Newman is a junior at Maple Grove and the daughter of Kevin and Susan Newman. She is a member of the Senior High Honor Society and is a class representative in the student council for the graduating class of 2020. Abigail is a member of the varsity soccer team through Maple Grove and also participates in off season soccer leagues. She is also a part of her school drama class and spanish club. Outside of school, Abigail volunteers often at the Bemus Point Fire Hall. After high school, Abigail plans to attend college but is undecided on a career path. Abigail also wishes to thank the American Legion Auxiliary for this opportunity.
