Kiantone Fire Dept. To Offer Meals On Friday

The Kiantone Fire Department will hold its last fish fry/chicken tender dinners of the season from 5-8 p.m. Friday. Fried or broiled fish includes French fries, coleslaw, tartar and cocktail sauce, roll and butter for $15. Chicken tender meal includes French fries, ranch or barbecue dipping sauce, roll and butter for $12. The event is drive through or take out only. Reformation

Sunday To Be Celebrated On Oct. 29

First Lutheran Church will celebrate Reformation Sunday on October 29th with festive services at both the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services. The 9 a.m. worship service will be led by the Sacred Fire Praise Team with Kim King as Worship Leader and Director of Contemporary Worship. The Rev. Mark E. Swanson, Pastor, will deliver the Reformation Day sermon and Holy Communion will be observed at both services. Special music at the 11 a.m. traditional worship service will include the First Lutheran Good News Ringers performing A Mighty Fortress arranged by Cathy Moklebust and directed by Karen Linn. The First Lutheran Choir under the direction of Brian A. Bogey, Organist/Choirmaster, will sing Built on a Rock arranged by Margarethe Hokanson, featuring Kimberly Larson as guest flautist. The public is welcome to attend.

Fall News

The Theta Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority met recently at the house of Joyce Anderson. Mrs. Anderson presented her program “Harvest Festivals” emphasizing Halloween. Guest Katherine Schultze helped members create ghosts from macrame tied to a quilt hoop. Anderson read stories from the novel Killing Witches in Salem, Massachusetts by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard. Then members showed their favorite Halloween items from their past. Following the program, Tracie Smith presided at the business meeting. The Service Committee will meet Oct. 28 at the Minerva Library, Sherman, for the library’s theme “Bats.” The committee will listen to children reading about these mammals. The Social Committee is organizing the chapter’s birthday celebration on Nov. 9. Under Sunshine and Gifts, Rose VanVolkenburg was sent a get well card for her accident.  Former member Joan Wahl will have a reading of her book Summer Love in Music City at the Patterson Library in Westfield at 6 p.m. on Nov. 14. 

Book Sale Nov. 2 To Nov. 4

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood Memorial Library is holding a book sale from Thursday, Nov. 2, through Saturday, Nov. 4. The sale will feature hundreds and hundreds of books — fiction and nonfiction, hard cover and paperback, children’s books and books by local authors as well as audiobooks, CDs, DVDs and jigsaw puzzles. Sale hours are Thursday, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a bag sale — fill one bag for $2, two bags for $3 or one box for $6.
