Church To Offer Brunch For Veterans Sunday

Lighthouse Baptist Church, 381 Camp St., Jamestown, is hosting a special service and brunch at 11 a.m. Sunday for veterans. Pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs and fresh baked goods will be served. There is no charge. There will also be a gift bag for every service person as well as a gift basket to be given away. Families are invited to attend.

Candidates Forum To Be Held In Fluvanna

FLUVANNA — A meet-the-candidates forum will take place at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Fluvanna Fire Hall, 3536 Fluvanna Ave., Fluvanna. The forum will be a non-partisan event that will offer an opportunity to meet and interact with candidates running for office in the community. All candidates wishing to represent Fluvanna or seeking election to any other position within the town of Ellicott are invited to the event. Eason Hall Front Entrance Closed This Afternoon

WESTFIELD — The contractor for the work on Eason Hall will need to have the front door closed today, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. to closing to complete water sealing on the front entranceway. It will only need to be closed for the remainder of that day.

Once again residents and customers may plan to arrive before 2 p.m. that day or alternatively, mail their utility payments in, pay them online or utilize our side drop box before attempting to pay in person.

Staff will keep the north side (handicap) entrance open for business but realize that parking is extremely limited on both sides of Eason Hall. Unless you are handicapped, if you must pay your bills or do other business in person, you are asked to park at the Elm Street Public Parking lot or on Elm or McClurg streets to conduct any business at Eason Hall for the remainder of that day.

Mayville Village Board Schedules Special Meeting

MAYVILLE — The Village of Mayville will hold a special board meeting today, Oct. 18, at 4:30 p.m. at the Village of Mayville Office, 1 South Erie St., in the conference room. The board will be discussing the Mayville water project and various topics.

Unapproved Fundraising Activity Reported

MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office has recently been made aware of a fundraising promotion for the U.S. Deputy Sheriff’s Association. This activity has not been discussed with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and it is not endorsing the effort. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office does not and has not received assistance from this organization. “We continue to support and endorse the New York State Sheriff’s Association and New York State Sheriff’s Institute, which work hard to offer various different levels of support for our county as well as hold a Sheriff’s summer camp,” the department said in a statement. “Each year we are able to send kids from our county to the camp at no cost to them.”

Biscuit Dinner Scheduled For Oct. 25

Watts Flats United Methodist Church will host a chicken and biscuit dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. October 25. The cost is a donation. The public is welcome to attend.
