Walter And Betty Abbot

Walter and Betty Abbott of Gerry celebrated their 71st anniversary on April 18. The couple were married in Bainbridge, Georgia in 1953.

Walter retired after 43 years of service to SMFlickenger/Sysco Co as a truck driver, retiring in 1996. Betty was a department manager for JCPenney Co for 15 years, retiring in 1994. In their retirement they’ve enjoyed RV traveling for many years throughout the United States, often accompanied by close friends. Eventually the couple began spending winters in Florida near their eldest son and his family and summers at Hidden Valley Campground in Kiantone.

They raised five children together, Dennis, Dean, Janis, Joyce and Jayne, at their Trask Road home near Jamestown, where the couple resided for 33 years. Walter and Betty also have 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

The family celebrated with a quiet dinner at their Gerry home.
