Anthony and Mary Rainier of Fluvanna celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with a special family dinner. They are the parents of Fran Rainier of Jamestown, N.Y., Roslyn (Dr. Salvator) Vicario of Louisville, Ky., and Deborah (Steven) Kapuscinski of Cincinnati, Ohio. They also have six grandchildren: Marissa, Yvonne, Kara, Scott, Lauren and Adam; and one great-granddaughter, Ciana.

Rainier and the former Mary L. Loverme were married Oct. 16, 1944, in St. James Church. The Rev. John L. Fitzpatrick performed the ceremony.

Rainier is a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy SEABEES. Prior to his retirement, he had been a meat cutter and along with his wife owned and operated Rainier’s Market on Falconer and Bowen streets for 43 years, where he was well known for Rainier’s Italian sausage. They are members of Holy Apostles Ss. Peter and Paul Church, the War Vets Recreation Club and the American Legion.
