Reader Calls For Officials To Give An Estimate

To The Reader’s Forum: In a recent article in The Post-Journal, it states that the predicted dates for Medicare (2026) and Social Security (2037) are to become insolvent. Obviously, this is very disturbing but it brings me to one very important question. Can any elected official from any political party give us an estimate on when Medicaid and related social services programs will also become insolvent? Art Vincent Falconer

Taxpayers Should Not Pay For Pope Protection

To The Reader’s Forum: When the pope comes to the United States I have no objections about his visit, per se. I realize that it is very meaningful and inspiring to Catholics. However, I firmly believe that the Vatican should provide protection for him, but it does not. Instead, our Secret Service provides it. In other words, our taxpayers are footing the bill. To me, this is tantamount to the United States endorsing Roman Catholicism. Norman Anderson Falconer

Hitting The Nail Right On The Head

To The Reader’s Forum: This is in response to an op-ed that appeared in The Post-Journal on April 28, 2019. The editorial was written by a property-owning, taxpaying resident of the city of Jamestown. The article consisted of raises for the mayor and City Council members. The article also addressed Jamestown’s fiscal/financial issues. This city resident got a 100-percent bullseye and hit the nail right on the head. City development and city government needs to realize the city exists beyond the downtown limits. It is the property-owning city taxpayers who live in the ...

Caring For The Lake Is Caring For People

To The Reader’s Forum: The recent letter to the Readers’ Forum by Tom Erlandson and Jim Wehrfritz of the Chautauqua Lake Partnership confused me. The authors began by asking that we honor Earth Day every day, but then they criticized the Chautauqua Lake Alliance, Chautauqua County government and the New York Department of Environmental Conservation for their response to the fish kill in Burtis Bay. They complained about these groups for caring for nature and the ecology of the lake, claiming that the DEC is putting mussels before people and concluding that “People are ...

Outsider Anti-Religious Bigotry ‘Wins’ In Clymer

To The Reader’s Forum: Holding a club over the head of the Clymer Central School, a leftist special interest group intimidated the district into shutting down the freedom to assemble at Baccalaureate and the free expression of prayer at graduation. One solitary complaint swung the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) into exerting the clout of its legal and leftist thuggery to ban what has blessed the vast majority of Clymer residents for decades. FFRF is an intolerant pack of ideological bullies who roam around the country to pounce on schools who do not toe-the-line of their ...

Reader Says Republicans Help Russian Interference

To The Reader’s Forum: There is no question that Russia interfered in the presidential election. The Mueller Report looked at whether Trump’s campaign helped them with that. Ultimately it found there was no criminal intent to help the Russians. This doesn’t change the FACT that Russia did interfere. Republicans used to be very concerned about the Soviet Union and subsequently, Russia’s intentions in the United States. They spent a great deal of time and taxpayer dollars investigating Hillary Clinton and her use of a private email server. Donald Trump publicly called on ...
