Taxpayers Should Not Pay For Pope Protection

To The Reader’s Forum:

When the pope comes to the United States I have no objections about his visit, per se.

I realize that it is very meaningful and inspiring to Catholics. However, I firmly believe that the Vatican should provide protection for him, but it does not. Instead, our Secret Service provides it. In other words, our taxpayers are footing the bill.

To me, this is tantamount to the United States endorsing Roman Catholicism.
