Home, Garage Leveled
Report: Man Accidentally Starts Fire That Destroys Property
PANAMA — A man cleaning manure and other items reportedly sparked a small brush fire that grew in size and destroyed his home and garage in Panama on Tuesday.
No injuries were reported in the blaze at 1102 Hoag Road, which was called in around 3:15 p.m. While en route, fire officials were told the brush fire had spread to nearby property.
The property owner told fire officials he was attempting to burn debris when the fire spread to the brush.
The residence was fully ablaze and nearly leveled when crews arrived, Panama fire chief Rich Digirolamo told The Post-Journal. The home and a 20-by-30-foot garage were completely destroyed in the fire.
Crews used an excavator to help stop the remaining flames at the scene. The brush fire carried about 30 yards into the adjoining woods, Digirolamo said.
Assisting Panama were Busti, Clymer, Ashville, Lakewood, Kiantone and Bear Lake volunteer firefighters.
County fire investigators were also summoned Tuesday.
