Hewes’ Stingy Relief Sends Chautauqua Lake Past Brocton

BROCTON — Devin Hewes threw five innings of two-hit relief, striking out 12 as Chautauqua Lake beat Brocton 14-5 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 baseball Monday.

Nolan Olson went 3 for 4 with three RBIs; Cayden Blackman doubled and drove in two runs; and Hewes scored three runs for the Eagles (3-3, 3-1).

Donovan St. George went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI; Damion Franklin doubled and drove in a run; and Aiden Gatto singled, stole a base and drove in a run for the Bulldogs (1-2, 1-2).

COUGARS RALLY PAST WESTFIELD

SINCLAIRVILLE — Cassadaga Valley scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally past Westfield for a 4-3 Division 2 win.

The Wolverines (0-3, 0-3) took the lead in the top of the seventh inning when Tristen Phillips walked and eventually scored on a Danny Bratton RBI single.

Trailing 3-2, Jordan Swanson walked in the bottom of the seventh inning and eventually scored to tie the game. Logan Hayward then drove in Brad Windnagle on an RBI single for the Cougars’ winning run.

Hunter Johnson struck out five in two innings, while Jackson Crowell earned the win on the mound for Cassadaga Valley (2-3, 2-2)

Westfield led 2-1 in the sixth inning before Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to score Hayward with the tying run.

Johnson and Hayward each had two singles for the Cougars, while Aaron Fuller, Chris Vacanti, Mason Baum and Bratton each had a hit for the Wolverines. Bratton struck out seven on the mound.

WOLFPACK BLANKS PINE VALLEY

SOUTH DAYTON — Bryce Hinsdale went 5 for 5 with a double to lead Clymer/Sherman/Panama past Pine Valley 13-0 in Division 2 action.

Kaden Beckerink allowed three hits and struck out nine while walking none to earn the win on the mound for the Wolfpack (2-2, 2-1).

Sawyer Bradigan and Camryn Slade combined for eight strikeouts on the mound for the Panthers (0-5, 0-4).

Andrew Spiesman drove in three runs, while Beckerink, Tate Catanese and Carson White all had multiple hits for Clymer/Sherman/Panama.

Slade, Trent Ivett and Bradigan each had a hit for Pine Valley.

JAMESTOWN FALLS TO LEGENDS

LANCASTER — Lancaster’s Mike Fales pitched the first three innings against Jamestown, struck out six and walked three as the Legends downed the Red & Green 15-1 in Erie County Interscholastic Conference 1 action.

Mike Schaeffer and Jim Buttner each collected three hits to lead the Lancaster (1-2, 1-2) offense.

Jamestown went through four pitchers in the contest, starting with Blake Smith Jr., followed by Owen Glover, Kyle Falkowski and Alex Alvira.

The Red & Green broke up the shutout in the seventh inning when Chase Bonta singled and Gavin Maggio pinch ran. Maggio made his way around the bases and was singled home by Antoni Rodriguez. Bonta and Dom Weber both finished with two hits for Jamestown (0-4, 0-4).
