City Farmer’s Market To Feature All-Day Comedy Event

The Jamestown Public Market continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In celebration of Lucy Fest weekend and the grand opening of the National Comedy Center, the market will feature an all-day comedy event by Karate Sleepover, a Jamestown group that will bring family friendly jokes, improv games and trivia. Members MW Barrick, Paul Clemente, Dan Davis, Jim Drain and Jeremy Little have produced more than two dozen comedy shows. Also appearing will be Pittsburgh alt-comic Ian Insect, fresh off an opening act for Creed Bratton, formerly of the television show, The Office.

There will also be wine tastings from local winery 21 Brix, snow cones and family friendly activities through Conduit Ministries ‘I am Loved’ program.

On Aug. 11, the Jamestown Public Market is re-locating, one day only, for a collaborative endeavor with the Whirlybird Music Festival, starting at 10 a.m. All current market vendors will be joining the festival, located along Second and Pine streets in Jamestown. Regular market activities and services, including the SPROUTS Club, EBT and Double Up Food Bucks will be available.

On Aug. 18 the public market will feature a community pig roast courtesy of For Peate’s Sake Homestead and Becki’s Bakery. Community members can have pork sandwiches while supplies last. Local act Magic by Uri will also be in attendance.

Dunkirk food truck Siri Thai Food will be at the Aug. 25 market. Each Saturday will continue to feature a 10:30 a.m. story time in partnership with the James Prendergast Library’s Summer Reading Challenge.

Community spotlights for the month of August sharing their services and programs at the market include The Chautauqua Center, Eat Smart NY and Chautauqua Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council, entertainers Charity Nuse, Jamestown clown Gary Mooney, Bill Downe and Juli Bessey will also bring their talents to the market throughout the month.

Vendors include Abers Acres, Hidden Valley Produce, Love Your Weeds, For Peate’s Sake Homestead, Becki’s Bakery, Photos by Nathan Meleen, Dawn Graham Designs, MakePeace/Live Well, Eden’s Herbs, Gardens of Eternity, the Biodome Project, Crafts by Elizabeth Gifford and Scott’s Farm & Greenhouse.

The Jamestown Public Market is located along Cherry Street between Second and Third streets, Jamestown. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. The market accepts EBT payments, credit and debit cards, WIC, FMNP coupons, and participates in the Double Up Food Bucks program, sponsored by Field and Fork Network.
