Rappole, Porpiglia Claim Feather Memorial Titles
Tristen Rappole and Judy Porpiglia were the top overall male and female finishers in the 32nd annual Daniel Feather Memorial 5K held earlier this month.
Rappole toured the course in 20 minutes, 12.29 seconds, while Porpiglia posted a 24:10.80.
The second- and third-place overall finishers in each division were Gregory Brink (21:14.09) and Karl Holmberg (22:01.19) for the men and Lydia Samuelson (25:16.72) and Sherri McCall (25:38) for the women.
The Feather race, which is part of the 2025 Runner of the Year Series, not only honors its namesake’s love for running, but also supports local students, as proceeds support the Chautauqua Striders youth programs and the Dan Feather Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded to a graduating senior.
Feather, a 1993 Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame inductee, was a co-founder of the Striders in 1979 with Ron Graham. In addition to serving as a volunteer coach for several years, the Jamestown Police Department officer excelled at the New York State and International Police Olympics, where he collected numerous gold and silver medals; received the Chautauqua County Gold Achievement Award for personal fitness; and was also selected as one of Jamestown Community College’s 50 greatest athletes. Feather passed away on May 12, 1992.
In the walk, Rodney Daum (38:43.53) and Rebecca Allen (50:31.36) were the top male and female finishers.
