JCC’s Bennett Scores Another Game-Winning Goal

WATERTOWN — For the second time this season, Jamestown Community College’s Shane Bennett played buzzer-beater for the game-winning goal for the Jayhawks.

This time it was the sophomore scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Jefferson CC at the 44:34 mark, just 26 seconds before the halftime horn Saturday. The assist came off the foot of freshman Curro Rivas.

Bennett’s three goals on the season are the second most for the team, behind the six of fellow sophomore Braidan Govan.

In net, freshman Theo Merlin blanked the Cannoneers, making all seven saves needed for the 1-0 victory.

The win moves Jamestown to 6-3 overall and 5-1 in Region 3 play.

The Jayhawks return home for a scrimmage with Gannon University on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Jayhawks continue league play on Saturday at 3 p.m., when they visit Fulton-Montgomery CC.
